Cue-Go started in the dark of a Dunedin theatre with two students, zero equipment and a show to deliver. Today we're a 100% NZ-owned retailer supplying professional lighting, audio, video and effects gear nationwide.

The name is the job
Every show in the world runs on the same two words. An operator sits in the dark, finger on the button, waiting for the stage manager's call: "Standby... cue, go." That split second when preparation turns into a show is what we named the company after.
Cue-Go was founded in July 2023 in Dunedin by Josh Wiegman and Abby Fernandes, two University of Otago students who were already spending more nights in theatres than lecture halls. There was no funding round and no warehouse. The company started with literally zero equipment and a belief that shows in the South could be done better.

Earning it, one show at a time
The first chapter was hands-on: equipment hire, lighting and AV design, and production support for theatre and events across Otago. Cue-Go became one of the preferred suppliers for the Dunedin Fringe Festival and delivered work for the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic, building a reputation for turning up prepared and making shows happen.
The startup world noticed too. Cue-Go took home the Industry Disruptor Award and the Best Small Team prize at Audacious 2024, and was accepted into Startup Dunedin's Distiller Incubator. Along the way we've put more than $25,000 back into the communities and student productions that got us started.
Our hire and production operations concluded in July 2025, and Cue-Go relaunched as a dedicated retailer of professional production equipment, run by people who have specced, rigged, patched and operated the gear they sell.

The production years

The pivot
Production and hire operations conclude, and Cue-Go goes all-in on retail, supplying the gear instead of running the shows.
